We
announced last week that we had our Danish Viper sheets at the
printers and those are going through the print cycle at Microscale
as I type this. We have another product announcement though that has
been a long time coming (over here it has been
anyways).
Years ago around the 2001-2002 time frame, I
started having some E-mail conversations with Bob "Gigs" Hehemann.
"Gigs" was introduced to me by one of our fellow modelers, Darren
"Shead" McTee. Darren's a great modeler and you've seen some of his
fine work at the IPMS Nats as well as on Aircraft Resource
Center.
If some of you recognize Gig's callsign, you probably
should since he was credited with two shootdowns during Desert Storm
when he was part of the 36th TFS out of Bitburg, Germany. Gigs
provided me with lots of personal photos and some great stories of
his days out in the desert and I slowly compiled as many references
as I could on jets from BT.
Nine years later, here we are in
2011 and through some absolutely fantastic help from Gigs Hehemann
(Eagle Driver), Darren McTee (Eagle Driver), Jim Rotramel (BT pics
galore), Bruce Radabaugh (BT pics), Mike Reeves (Former BT Eagle
Crew Chief) and numerous plane spotters out of Germany I've just
completed the decal artwork on a pretty complete and exhaustive set
of decals for the 36th! The above guys have assisted me every step
of the way and they really engaged on this one with their expertise
and photos. You find great refs in the oddest places and the folks I
met out of Germany were a huge help. Great guys all of
em!
The images below are of the 48th scale sheet and I'm
ramping these up and down in both 72nd and 32nd. Compass Ghost, Mod
Eagle, MSIP, non-MSIP, MiG/Sukhoi killers, Special scheme jets...
There are options for 13 total jets on this sheet with enough
stencils to build various combinations of up to two jets. Lots of
options for everyone!
I anticipate these going to the
printers within the next two weeks or so, as soon as I can finish up
the instruction sheets on them and get one final proofing from
Gigs.
